TICKETS to the first event of a village's festival was sold out within hours of the box office opening. Winchcombe Festival of Music and Arts's first event, an evening concert featuring renowned British pianist Marcel Zidani, was sold out quickly. The festival, which will take place from May 24 – 27, had sold all the tickets at the tourist information office in High Street, which is serving as the festival's box office. Staff have started compiling a waiting list for anyone who wants a ticket to the concert, which will see Mr Zidani talking about his career, together with recitals from Beethoven, Liszt and Chopin. Festival chairman Roger Paine, said: "This was a fantastic start for ticket sales and we've also had a lot of buyers snapping up tickets via our online facility. "We actually had people waiting for the Box office to open this morning so they could be first in to buy tickets to ensure they didn't miss out on their favourite events." "This year the Festival includes nine arts and crafts workshops over two days so people can actually try their hand at being creative themselves. We've also got some Festival favourites including choral concerts, art, photograph and sculpture exhibitions and a new open-air lunchtime jazz picnic in the beautiful grounds of Winchcombe Abbey and a rock concert." Tickets for workshops in patchwork, creative writing, pottery, cup cake decorating and medieval music-making are now on sale. Rounding off the festival weekend will be the Bank Holiday Monday Street Fair which runs throughout the day with around 60 stalls, live music and street entertainment. Tickets start from £6 and is available from the tourism information centre.
