JAMIE McDonald's spirits are higher than ever despite being behind schedule in his trans-Canadian challenge.
Jamie, 26, from Tredworth, is aiming to become the first man to run unaided across Canada and has reached Nova Scotia.
He is a quarter of a way into his time in the country, due to his visa constraints, but is only 15 per cent of the way into his 5,000-mile journey.
However, he is now averaging running the distance of a marathon every day, which was his initial goal, and his confidence is still sky high.
"I'm feeling great," said Jamie, who hopes to raise £60,000 for children's charities.
"The weather is picking up a bit and for the moment I am out of the rain and snow I have been used to during the days.
"I am covering the distance of a marathon every day now so I think I'm getting stronger. The nights are still windy though and I haven't been getting much sleep as I've been camping most nights and at night, the winds are gale force.
"The other day, a man pulled in to where I was camped and told me a bear had been seen in the exact same spot the previous day. I knew I was in Canada then."
He has made several sacrifices along the way, including missing his brother's wedding, but is determined to complete the challenge and has even come up with a novel way to carry his weighty pack.
He said: "I am using a push chair to hold my gear and I run with it, it is really good.
"I have been really lucky with injuries too and have developed a routine where I run in the morning, sleep, run again and then massage my legs before I go to bed. It seems to be working.
"Everyone is so nice here too. The other day I knocked on someone's door asking to camp on their lawn and they said they had a spare bedroom I could stay in instead."
