SCHOOLCHILDREN helped the county's top cops break the ground for work to start on Gloucestershire's new £12 million cell block.
The youngsters from nearby Hardwicke and Longney primaries interrupted their summer holidays to join in the ceremony with Martin Surl, Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner, and his Chief Constable Suzette Davenport.
The custody suite, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2014, will replace ageing cells in Gloucester and elsewhere.
The project was really good news, Chief Constable Davenport said. "Our current cells are only just fit for purpose," she said.
