A PENSIONER driving a mobility scooter crashed into the back of a lorry yesterday.

The senior citizen collided with the heavy goods vehicle in Russell Street, in Stroud.

The incident happened at around noon on the busy road.

Police officers attended the scene and a Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesman said: "The road wasn't closed and there were no injuries as a result of this incident."

It came as other road users reported traffic delays on the approach to the town, mainly because of the closure of Dudbridge Hill for resurfacing and temporary traffic lights on Bath Road.

The hill is closed until Saturday during the hours of 9am and 4.30pm and a diversion is in place.

One enraged driver took to Twitter to say: "Warning, Stroud is almost at a gridlock.

"It has just taken me 45 minutes to get from there to Nailsworth."

A number of other people re-tweeted the user to warn other motorists to avoid the area during the lunchtime period.
