EASTCOMBE Primary School has become one of the few primary schools locally to receive a full International Award from the British Council.
The award, more often given to secondary schools, was recognition of Eastcombe's success in achieving an international outlook and global citizenship among its pupils, headteacher Angela Ayling said.
Eastcombe is linked with a school in India and another in Germany.
"As a small village primary in Stroud we feel it is important to broaden the children's horizons by encouraging an understanding of other cultures and the breadth and diversity of the world we live in," Mrs Ayling said.
The school has links with Bharti Public School in New Delhi and with German pupils through assistant Annegret Gelbrecht.
Mrs Ayling said class one boys and girls exchange pictures of their homes with their Indian counterparts and class three students swapped maths challenges on a weekly basis.
The British Council encourages cultural relations. It creates international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and builds trust between them worldwide.
