A woman has died after being stabbed in Gloucester this evening.
Police were called to reports of a man attacking the woman at a shop in Southgate Street at approximately 5.50pm.
The ambulance service attended the incident and transported the 20-year-old victim to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but she sadly passed away.
The next of kin and coroner have been informed.
A murder investigation is now under way. No-one has yet been arrested.
Police activity in the street is focused on the Fringe Benefits & La Bella Beauty salon.
Craig Bell, 24, who lives in the city centre, said: "I'm shocked it's happened, especially at a time when there would have been loads of people around.
"I just feel for the poor girl and her family."
One woman, who lives in the city centre and asked not to be named, said: "It's just awful, awful
"To think it can happen in the centre at a busy time makes you feel unsafe. I hope the police catch whoever did it.
"The poor girl, I'm so sad for her and her family."
Delroy Ellis, founder of Increase the Peace youth project, said: "Just heard on the news about the young lady who was tragically murdered earlier today. This is the second brutal knife murder in Gloucester in less than two months. Sending my condolences and thoughts to this lady's family and friends."
