DRIVING instructor John Gough is asking for national speed limit signs to be placed on a dual carriageway to make it easier for learner drivers. Those who drive along from the Waterwells Drive roundabout and turn into the A38 dual carriageway towards the Cross Keys Roundabout often get confused. John, who runs his own driving school based in Abbeydale said: "There are signs before the roundabout but nothing on the actual dual carriageway. "It is confusing because on the A38 stretch there are lampposts so automatically drivers assume it is a 30 miles per hour zone. "There are plenty of signs for drivers who are taking off along the B4008 road." The A38 route is a popular route with learner drivers taking their driving test. Many examiners will take their pupils along the dual carriageway when they leave the test centre which is based in Falcon Close. John added: "I have counted and there are 12 lampposts along the A38, we need two destriction signs. "This will stop lorries going against the back of learner cars who don't realise." A spokesman for Gloucestershire County Council said: "There are signs at the roundabout informing drivers that the national speed limit applies on the A38. "However, we would like to thank Mr Gough for making us aware of his concerns and will consider placing further signs for the benefit of inexperienced drivers in due course."
