ELLIOTT Stooke's remarkable season has been recognised after being shortlisted for the Premiership's Land Rover Discovery of the Season award. The Gloucester second-row is one of six players on the list, with the winner announced at an awards dinner on May 15. Stooke has enjoyed a meteoric rise since starring for England Under-20s throughout the 2013 Junior World Championship and has established himself as an enforcer in the Cherry and Whites' pack. The 20-year-old has been an ever-present feature since making his league Northampton Saints at the beginning of the season. Speaking to Gloucester Rugby TV Stooke said: "I'm hugely honoured to be selected for the award against some very good competition. "It seems a long time since Northampton at home but it's been a good season and I'd just like to thank the coaches for giving me their trust, especially as such a young guy in the forward pack. We haven't had the season we wanted but to get that trust is good. "I have had some great experienced with some of the boys at the club like Will James – he's a great player and a role model for me. "Some of the players I have come up against this season have also been experiences I will cherish for a lifetime, the likes of facing Paul O'Connell and Munster was incredible." Jamie Elliott (Northampton Saints), George Ford (Bath), Billy Vunipola (Saracens), Anthony Watson (Bath) and Owen Williams (Leicester Tigers) are the other nominees on the shortlist. The winner, who will follow in the footsteps of Owen Farrell, Manu Tuilagi and Joe Launchbury, will be decided by a panel of journalists. Meanwhile prop Nick Wood has been appointed as part of an all-star coaching team at Brockworth RFC. Wood will join former Cherry and White favourite Dave Pointon in a new-look coaching team at the ambitious Gloucester One South West club. Wood said: "Brockworth is a proper rugby club - a great bunch of lads and a very welcoming environment". "I worked with Dave early in my career and I have great respect for him as a coach. I can learn from him and also bring current premiership experience to the team". The duo will be outlining their plans for the club at a players evening on May 2 (7pm), with new players welcome.
