NEW figures show that three out of five dog owners in Gloucestershire admit to not clearing up after their pets. And four out of five say dog mess in public places is becoming an issue across the county. But these figures do not come as a surprise to dog trainer Janet Butler, who said some dog owners can become aggressive when they are asked to scoop the poop. Mrs Butler, who runs Brockworth Puppy and Dog Training, in Gloucester, said: "This is my pet hate and nothing shocks me anymore. "Some people are just not responsible dog owners. "I run six-week puppy courses and right from the beginning I tell people it is their responsibility to clear up after their dogs." Research by Maximum Worming has also revealed that nearly a quarter of people surveyed say the issue is on the increase and nearly half say they see dog mess nearly every time they take their own pet for a walk. A total of 43 per cent did not realise worms in dog mess can be passed on to humans. Maximum Wording will spread the word about responsible dog ownership at the Royal Three Counties Show from June 13-15. Kingsley Baxendale, spokesman from Maximum Worming, said: "A lot of responsible pet owners are getting really fed up and frustrated with the problem of dog mess. "We're really looking forward to meeting dog and cat owners at the show and offering them tools and advice on worming. "There is a simple two-fold message for pet owners – clean up your dog's mess and get your pets, both cats and dogs, wormed regularly with a vet strength wormer."
