Chris Witts has been studying the River Severn since he was fourteen but he had never seen a seal sunbathing before.
The former Mayor of Gloucester spotted this portly seal at low water in Gloucester.
It was on a sandbank opposite the Lifeboat Station off the Old Dock entrance at Sharpness.
Chris said: "Although I have been associated with the Severn since a lad of 14-years-old this is the first time I have seen a seal in/on the river.
"Apparently it is quite common to see one, even up her in Gloucester but nice to see one for real oneself.
"It was at low water and seemed to be enjoying the hot sun!"
