THRIVING One Church in Gloucester has sent 200 of its volunteers to help community projects throughout the city today.
The volunteers have been sent to 12 projects in Gloucester and are repainting the warehouse of Emmaus, an organisation that provides a bed and meaningful work for homeless people, and running a pamper day for vulnerable women at the ISIS Centre.
They are also brightening up the garden at the Nightingale House sheltered scheme, face painting for Abbeymead Rovers and sprucing up the play space at Moat School.
It's the third year in a row that the One Day of Action has been organised by Robinswood church, which attracts people from across the Forest of Dean, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.
Tina Lavender, One Church member who is organising the event for the second time, said: "We want to show that church doesn't need to stay within four walls by getting into the heart of the city.
"Our church's mission statement is about loving God and loving people, and these community projects are about loving people."
Church volunteers are also picking litter around Widden Primary School and Metz Way, installing stepping stones at The Barn Owl pub in Kingsway and organising a family fun day at the Cathedral.
The One Church is currently having to hold two Sunday services every week to cater for it's 500 members.
Tina said: "We've had a really positive response from everyone in the community and there's a real buzz about these projects.
"In the last two years we've been doing DIY projects, but this year we've raised the bar a little bit and done community work.
"We've also had loads of support from local businesses who have loaned us equipment."
The volunteers are also gardening in Kingsholm, the Tuffley memorial garden and at Matson's MusicFest, and taking part in the Westgate Community Togetherness Day.
