IT was the day it rained hay in Cheltenham. The weather forecast had predicted dry weather with clear blue skies on Saturday and there was no mention of clumps of hay and grass falling to the ground.
Nick Madigan, 42, had just got off the bus at the Arle Court Roundabout near GCHQ on Saturday when he looked up and saw hay swirling in the sky above. The self-employed bathroom fitter from Meadow Close, Fiddlers Green, said: "I looked up and I could see all this hay. "There was no wind, so I assume it was something to do with thermals. "It was swirling around anti-clockwise and it was quite high in the sky, about the height seagulls fly at. "The hay must have been picked up from a nearby field and then come down. "I used to live in Spain and you have what they call 'dust devils' there, but I have never seen anything like this." It started to come down on the road and on cars, and Nick took pictures and video of the phenomenon. He converted the video to black and white as it showed the hay in the sky more clearly. We have also been contacted by a woman in Devon, who witnessed a similar incident on Thursday. Angeles Wilson said: "I and four other people witnessed the same phenomenon on Thursday in Paignton Devon. "We were having drinks in the Beefeater garden when saw shaped clumps of hay like materialspiralling down from high up in the sky, no wind. "It's even more mysterious as it happened in two different parts of uk days apart!!" Did you also see the hay falling down? Have you got pictures or video of it?
