BEN FOSTER: Tipped Celso Borges' free-kick onto bar. Looked steady enough thereafter. Six out of 10. PHIL JONES: Woefully lacking confidence. Mis-placed many passes. 5. CHRIS SMALLING: Never looked confident on the ball. 5. GARY CAHILL: Relatively solid at the back. Will be happy to be part of a team that finally kept a clean sheet. 6. LUKE SHAW: Very confident performance from the second-youngest player at this tournament. Lots of energy and showed good vision. 7. FRANK LAMPARD: Rarely featured on the attack for England. Just about did enough to protect the defence in possibly his final game. 6. JAMES MILNER: Worked hard and put in a couple of good crosses until he was injured. 6. JACK WILSHERE: Always looking for the ball. Showed energy and enthusiasm. One for the future if he can stay fit. 7. ROSS BARKLEY: Looked good at times, but gave the ball away cheaply on other occasions. 6. ADAM LALLANA: Combined well with Shaw down the flanks. Looked comfortable on the ball, but could not create an opening. 6. DANIEL STURRIDGE: Poor effort from the striker. Three good chances missed. 5. Substitutes: RAHEEM STERLING (on for Lallana, 61mins): Failed to provide the creative spark England needed so badly. 5. STEVEN GERRARD (on for Wilshere, 72mins): Biggest cheer of the afternoon when he came on. Did not have enough time to make an impact, though. 5. WAYNE ROONEY (on for Milner, 75mins): Best of the three substitutes. Tested the goalkeeper with a clever chip and went close to scoring at the end. Should have come on earlier. 6.
