HOLIDAY makers in Gloucestershire have their holidays under threat as French Air Traffic Controllers are on strike. Thousands of British passengers had their flights cancelled this week as the strike caused gridlock in the skies across Europe. Bristol Airport had to cancel six flights yesterday due to the strike, which is likely to keep going until Sunday. Today Ryanair cancelled 250 flights, and British Airways are due to cancel another 28 flights across the country tomorrow. Taxi ranks in Gloucester are also reporting problems with airport transfers due to the strike. Andy Casey, from Black Badge Cars, said: "We had to collect 10 people from Gatwick on Monday night as their plane had been diverted from Birmingham. They said it was to do with the strike." Michelle Flight, from Flights Taxis, said: "On Monday we had a flight delayed because of the strikes. We had to rearrange the taxi." Air safety body Eurocontrol predicted that almost 14,000 hours of delays could be caused by the strike. European Union plans for a 'single European sky,' backed by the French government, is the main cause of anger for air traffic controllers who fear job cuts. A statement from travel agents Thomson said: "It is likely that the continued industrial action may delay some our flights travelling over France over the coming days. There may also be longer than normal waiting times at baggage reclaim, as disruption of this nature can impact airport operations. "Thomson Airways will continue to monitor the situation and we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact and keep customers up to date with the latest flight information." Bristol Airport are advising passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight updates, and warn that other flights may be subject to delay.
