I SEE the Citizen appears to be giving more coverage to the badger debate.
Yes we have a rock star on their side. Yes the killing of any animal is not nice. But we cannot sit on our hands. The people writing in – don't they have any compassion for the farmers losing their livings and seeing animals they have bred for a particular use, especially milk production, killed and the milk not used?
We need some industry in this country. Cars are owned by other countries – we have no woollen mills or textiles now. When in my first 10 years of work as a butcher I attended technical college – also the abattoir – I asked the meat inspector when he said any animal with TB would go to the knacker's yard, why we couldn't eat the flesh, as TB only affects the lungs.
His answer was that the British public would not like to think that they are eating an animal with TB.
Also, vaccination of cattle? That would stop any exports we have as the EU does not allow it.
