A tyre lever wielding robber, who punched a vulnerable man and stole his rucksack, smirked as he was sentenced to three years and nine months in jail.
Joshua Guest-King smiled as he was handed down the sentence at Gloucester Crown Court on Monday – before the judge warned him he could always change his mind.
The 21-year-old from Bristol Road promptly apologised for his actions and told the judge: "I am pleased with the result. I am remorseful for what happened, but I am pleased with the result."
Prosecutor Julian Kesner told the court Christopher McBride, who suffers from mental health problems, was walking home at 9pm on April 13, this year when Guest-King approached him asking for a cigarette.
But when Mr McBride said no, Guest-King blocked his path and held up the tyre lever, which the victim believed was a crow bar.
The court heard Mr McBride offered the robber his rucksack before grabbing the tool and shouting for help before Guest-King punched him.
Some six days later the pair, who lived near each other, came across each other in the street and Guest-King chased him down the road, before confronting the victim outside his flat.
Mr McBride ran again before Guest-King pursued him.
Later that day the defendant returned to the victim's house where Guest-King was confronted by his brother and suggested they 'shook hands'.
But the defendant then said if the case was not dropped he would kill them both.
Five days later he came back to the victim's flat again and the police had to be called.
Defending Jon Holmes told the court Guest-King had a history of using addictive drugs, such as crack cocaine and heroin, and that he also had a supportive family.
He told the court the contact between the two was not planned and he had accidentally come across him as they lived near to each other and used the same shops.
Guest-King after he pleaded guilty to robbery and witness intimidation.
Talking of the robbery, Judge Euan Ambrose said: "It was at night, the victim was vulnerable.
"You had planned to go out and rob someone and deliberately armed yourself to do so.
"It was planned and you took with you a weapon and there was a punch."
Of the witness intimidation he told him: "It was prolonged. It was more than once. You were persistent and threats were used."
