TWO motorcyclists are being treated for serious injuries after their motorcycles collided with each other. Gloucestershire's roads have seen six motorcyclists killed in just four weeks – more than the whole of the previous year. The latest incident has sparked fresh concerns with a road safety boss saying that just one collision was 'one too many'. Garry Handley, from Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership, said: "One collision on our roads is one too many and so the road safety partnership will continue to educate all road users of their joint responsibilities to look out for each other." Mick Dwyer, from Joyriders Motorcycle Training, based in Gloucester, said: "There have been so many tragic accidents but some of them can be prevented with proper, advanced training. "The advice we would give is that people should not buy large capacity machines in the first couple of years of riding. They need to build up experience first and they can do extra training to prepare them for that. "They also need to think about their speed and the weather conditions. They must not treat the roads like a race course. "The recent headlines about the six deaths was very bad news. At first I thought this was across the region but then realised this was only Gloucestershire. Those figures are terrifying. "Of course we don't know what the details are of each case and that will be for investigators to work out, but it is a worrying figure." The Think! Bike campaign, run by the Department of Transport, has warned that motorcyclists are roughly 35 times more likely to be killed in a road traffic accident than car occupants. Some 30 motorcyclists are killed or injured at junctions every day, according to statistics. The campaign advises motorcyclists to make sure they are wearing the current protective wear and that they drive defensively, making them more alert and less vulnerable. Police are appealing for information about the collision on Saturday on the B4425 between Barnsley and Bibury, near to the Arlington Pike crossroads. It happened at around 3pm. Both motorcyclists were taken to hospital in Bristol, one by air ambulance and the other by road ambulance. The road was closed at Bibury Village while police dealt with the incident. One of the riders is a 28 year old local man and the other is a 54 year old male from Hemel Hempstead. The motorcycles involved are a Suzuki and a Yamaha. Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 300 June 14.
